Tilesetters

Tilesetters are responsible for applying granite, ceramic, porcelain, glass or marble tiles to floors, walls, countertops, showers and other surfaces. These skilled laborers possess an eye for detail and strong math skills, which allows them to master the more complex aspects of installation, such as making intricate cuts for a decorative layout.

Both indoor and outdoor,nearly every facility and building type, physically demanding, new and existing construction

Skills Needed

Strong math, reading, spatial and mechanical ability, problem solving, physical stamina, fast-paced thinking, communication, hand/eye coordination, blueprint reading, decision making, detail-oriented

Relevant Classes

  • At least 18 years old

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • Valid Drivers License

  • Reading Requirements: ACT 15 or Accuplacer 240

  • Arithmetic Requirements: ACT 14 or Accuplacer 220

Education and Training

  • 3-year apprenticeship program

  • 4,680 on-the-job hours

  • 400 classroom hours

  • Minimum 6 months prior experience as a finisher/helper

How to Apply

Applicants must find a contractor willing to take them on as an apprentice. After six to twelve months of employment, the signatory contractor enrolls the applicant into the apprenticeship program.
