Bricklayers

Bricklayers work with clay and concrete blocks, tiles, stone and other similar materials to build or repair walls, arches, patios, chimneys and other structures.

Work Conditions

Both indoor and outdoor, nearly every facility and building type, varying weather, physically demanding, new and existing construction, working from heights

Skills Needed

Strong math, spatial, and mechanical ability, physical stamina, fast-paced thinking and reacting, communication, hand/eye coordination, comfortable with heights, blueprint reading, and decision making

Application Requirements

  • At least 18 years old

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • Valid Drivers License

  • Arithmetic Requirements: ACT 14 or Accuplacer 220

  • Reading Requirements: ACT 15 or Accuplacer 240

Education and Training

  • 4-year apprentice program

  • 6,000 hours of on-the-job training

  • 520 classroom hours

  • UC eligible during school

How to Apply

After completing the application process and submitting passing ACT/Accuplacer test scores to the trade, applicants will receive a Letter of Introduction and a list of affiliated union contractors. It is then the applicant’s responsibility to secure a contractor willing to take them on as a bricklayer apprentice.
